Great app. Fun playing with friends from FB

I love this app except it looks like it is from the early 2000s on the iPhone. The Samsung app is such an upgrade. I would pay for an upgrade! I always have about 30 games going at once and it would be awesome to see my opponents win/loss record etc. Pretty please update the iPhone app!! Pretty, pretty please!!

I enjoy this app, and actually paid the small fee to purchase the paid version to avoid the adds. I play with my Dad and a few random opponents and really enjoy being able to play everyday.

Ive been playing chess with friends for over a year now and I do enjoy it. But I am trying to get better at it too. I find it difficult to get better when I am forced to see potential moves when I click on any of my chess pieces. When you click on a chess piece, a shadow will show all the moves you can make with it. I would like there to be an option in the settings where I can turn that off so I can play using my memory of where they can go. Please give us that option on the next app update.

Yes, its multiplayer chess, but this game has not received the same love as Words with Friends and the like. The interface looks like it was built in the 90s by an indie developer. The ads are extremely irritating. If they brought over the code and styling of other "with friends" games, this would be awesome.

Awesome app. Can play as many games as you want at once. Such a great way to kill a few minutes here and there, catching up on current games.

I think this is a decent app. I enjoy being able to play chess, a particular game that may have long move times, at my leisure, and not having to play only with people that have ipods/ipads, which makes up most of my score. Though this is the free version, the ads are quite distracting (one pops up everytime you make a move which must be closed to go back to the main screen), so unless you are unsure whether youd like this app and are just trying it out, I may go for the paid version. Though this was the free version, again, the app loses points on how invasive and rude the ads are. Also, no ipad version?? Words with friends has an HD version, this doesnt though. Edit: 9/19/16 (apparently one review isnt enough to not have the app pester you to leave a review) Well, I paid the $4 to buy the app. I think $4 is a little much to attract the casual app user (I dont recall words with friends being so pricey, maybe a $1 or $2 at most? Been a while...). I myself couldnt stand the ads anymore as I like to play a lot of chess. One thing I have to say is that there should be an option for when you start a game to choose the color, or even to offer your opponent the choice. Typically in chess (at least how Ive played) if you win you get choice of white or black side. White has the leading move so it should be the winner who decides if theyd like hat advantage, or to pass on it. When I play a game and it finishes, the winner ends the game by placing their opponent in checkmate, or someone resigns, but when you start a new game it makes you the white side by default. If someone loses, they can immediately start a new game and have the opening move. Sometimes when Ive lost I dont want the other person to wait around to start a new game, or at least offer to start a new game, I want to start it right away. But if Ive lost, its only sportsmanlike to offer the winner white. However, there is no option for this in the game, other than waiting for the other person to start a new game. You should at least be given choice of sides when starting a new game, rather than always have it be white. Otherwise if you wait the other person might forget or otherwise might want to play another game but not actually ever start a new one. That is my problem with the program.

Update: 09/19/16 I see the same score bug hasnt been fixed since my reviews 2 YEARS AGO. I clearly won 5 games yet the app says I won 4. Im going to assume the other bugs I MENTIONED 2 YEARS AGO have not been fixed either. I cant justify spending money on this app if the developer cant fix basic bugs. Update: 09/16/16 Came back to the app after about 2 years. $9.99 is STEEP for no ads. Update: 12/28/14 Now the app allows my opponent to take OVER 12 DAYS to move! After automatically resigning me after 4 days? What? Minus another star for that! Update 11/15/14 The app automatically resigned me after 4 days? I DID NOT resign. I thought I had up to 11 days to move. Whats up with that? Minus another star for that. Update: 10/24/14 Game Over Section I just discovered the app lists about the last 10 finished games. Earlier games drop off the list. Some of these games Id like to keep. Is there a way to retrieve these earlier games? Original Review The update is better. Now we can go through the moves without the app randomly displaying the final position. A bug in the app is it cant keep correct score. I clearly won 3 games but the app says I won 2...? I just started.

This nickname is my Username so play me! Pros: easy, clean interface. Move tracking helps prevent careless mistakes. Able to play 15+ games at once, very fun. And the chat feature is sweet. Cons: its a little hard to find users, I use the random opponent option. If you start a game, youre ALWAYS white, wish there was an option to start as black and have the opponent accept and then move first. Also, itd be nice to see your game history with several opponents.

Okay so apparently I lost cause I was asleep and didnt move within a certain time limit? So its an automatic loss???? I love chess but this app needs to work on some of these issues. Im a human being and I cant be on the game 24-7 thats messed up.

The only thing I have an issue with is a lot of the time I dont get a notification if someone has played their turn but when I click on the app it updates and shows that the other person played hours ago and were waiting on me to play. But other than that it does what its suppose to do !

I love the challenge of playing with people better than me. I continually learn to play better.

I play chess a lot and probably downloaded and played every available chess app there is. "Chess with Friends Free" stands out as particularly bad. There is no additional chess content. No openings or famous games. Very bad non-standard color and piece scheme. Then when they show you an ad (in this case a Starbucks ad) it does not have a counter, does not have an "x" to press, and doesnt go away unless you click it. Zynga then has the audacity to ask $9.99 for the ad free version. For much less you can get full featured chess apps that are full of content. The best chess apps are also free.

Full-screen ads must be cleared away before and after every move. Extremely annoying. Deleted game.

The game should end if the person doesnt move in a 24hr time period... especially when waiting for their first move

Does the minimum required to play the game. Room for improvement for sure, but quite seamless for barebones play, which for the price I paid is a decent deal.
